Nexium® is a prescription-only drug to be used at recommended doses for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by blocking the production of certain substances in the stomach and ulcer cells that are responsible for producing acid. Nexium is available in capsules, tablets, and oral solution that should be swallowed whole. Always follow the doctor's instructions regarding the dosage and frequency of use. It is a prescription medication and should not be given to a person without a prescription.
Nexium and other medications can be taken with or without food. They are designed to help reduce the side effects of certain drugs that may interact with these medications. They are not suitable for everyone and should not be taken by anyone under the age of 18. In some cases, they may interact with other drugs, such as antacids or certain antibiotics, which may affect how well Nexium works.
Nexium may be used in people with a history of certain types of blood clots, such as those that have a history of heart problems, liver disease, and kidney disease. It may also be used in people with certain types of cancer, such as those that have an active cancer-causing gene in the family PIK3CA (a protein that is part of the cancer-causing gene family).
There are a variety of possible side effects to taking Nexium. The most common side effect is nausea, which can be very uncomfortable. If you have nausea, you should contact your doctor.
If you are taking other drugs, your doctor will advise you on the best way to take Nexium. They may suggest a different medication or recommend you take a different drug. For instance, a lower dose may be used instead of a higher dose to reduce the side effects of Nexium. This is because some types of blood clots may be more sensitive to the effects of certain drugs.
If you are taking any of the following medications, you should check with your doctor to see if they are suitable for you:
• Pyrimethamine, used in smoking cessation medication;
• Zithromax, used in the treatment of allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, asthma attacks, and more.
If you have a history of blood clots, especially those that have a family history of blood clots, you should speak with your doctor about the best way to take Nexium.
If you have a history of certain types of cancer or a history of kidney disease, including those that have an active cancer-causing gene in the family PIK3CA (a protein that is part of the cancer-causing gene family), you should speak with your doctor about the best way to take Nexium. For example, a lower dose may be used instead of a higher dose to reduce the side effects of Nexium.
